From amazing to forgettable
I liked the first IT a lot! It was one of the few horror movies that I really enjoyed. I thought it was so cool, after so many movies of people running around helplessly from monsters, to see a bunch of kids beating the crap out of some demon clown.
So I'll start by saying what I enjoyed about this sequel.
I think the cast was very well chosen because most of the main characters really looked like their young versions. Especially James McAvoy who had a convincing performance in the stuttering scenes.
Overall, the group scenes where The Losers Club, despite being a totally different cast, still could replicate the chemistry within the friends were enjoyable and heartwarming. Especially the reunion's dinner, I liked that part.
That said, there were so many things wrong with this movie ...
To be honest, a lot of scenes were just cringe.
The Bar Mitzvah speech, the quest for the artifacts that predictably led them all to an individual encounter with IT, and the overdose of fan service and references for no reason at all, uugh...
And to top it all, the CGI's abuse to produce tons of "scary" scenes resulted that by the middle of the movie nothing was scary anymore. It almost looked like a fun adventure. Just too much...
It was all about bullying
So long story short , it was about bullying all the time..
That evil clown was a bully more than anything else.
And this time, it wasn't the power of friendship and overcoming their fear that led them to take the bully clown down.
What we learn from this movie is that to defeat a bully you need to shout your best insults at him as loud as you can. Than, if everything goes as planed you just have to take his heart out and crush it with your bare hands.
Ahh... The power of words...
