The Witcher (2019 - )

Long have we waited... To be a little bit disappointed because expectations were so high. I won't toss any coin to this Witcher but I'll for sure continue watching it.

Series Review: The Witcher (2019 - )

The world-building of a masterpiece... but not explained enough

First of all, I never read the books or played the games. So I'm not familiar with The Witcher universe and all I know about it comes from talking to friends who played The Witcher 3, and having played some Gwent myself.

I binge watched the whole first season in one day and these are my thoughts on it.
The impression I have is that the series was made for those who were already fans of the franchise, disregarding everyone else.
There was no acceptable presentation to the world, no explanation for politics or geography, the races and magic habilities. As an example, we see the Witcher Gerald (Henry Cavill) constantly taking potions which the effects are never even mentioned.

The pacing is also really weird, very fast and without much depth. It seems that they rushed the story and presentation of the characters to have a battle scene in every episode. That led to forced relationships and characters with no soul and no apparent weight or motivation in their actions.
The constant time jumps made the plot unnecessarily complicated and did not offer real development of the characters. I didn't even understand that we were following different timelines until episode 3. But that's not even the main problem for me. The biggest complaint I have about the chronological development of the story is that sometimes between each episode several years went by but the characters were completely the same, there was no development or maturation, nothing!

The Witcher: Too much Destiny

There's also too much recycled dialogues, especially about destiny, and I hate that.

What's good? Henry Cavill!

Henry Cavill is by far the best part  about this series, really good performance as the main character. Some of the supporting cast didn't look that great though. I don't know if it was really the actors fault or the writing but as I mentioned before a lot of the characters lacked depht and personality. I realy disliked Queen Calanthe (Jodhi May) and Jaskier (Joey Batey). Although the later has been aclaimed by the critics as a good representation of the bard I find him very anoying and don't think his relationship with Gerald makes any sense the way it was portrayed.

Also the show has obviously great production value and the fight choreographies are awesome. Henry Cavill looked amazing every time he used his sword.

The Witcher (2019 - ) Series Review

So to sum all up, The Witcher was entertaining but left me a little disappointed because my expectations were very high. I'm still very hyped for next season and hopeful that it can get better.

10 Netflix Original Shows that you should give a try

Netflix was one of the best things that happened to all movie and series lovers. There has never been easier access to content and entertainment than today and consumers only benefit from it. This created an authentic race for streaming platforms and we now have a wide range of services to choose from with the appearance of Disney +, Amazon Prime, Apple TV +, etc ... Too much in my opinion, but let's not talk about it. Netflix remains the most known and used service of this kind and it constantly presents us with high quality original content, so much that obviously some go unnoticed. This list purpose is to recommend some of those lesser known and talked about shows that some people may have missed. So do not expect to find the super popular ones like Stranger Things, The Witcher or House of Cards for example. Although there may be some reasonably known shows here that you might have watched or heard about, the goal is to escape as much as possible from those. So let...

Code 8 (2019)

Code 8 was a very interesting experience and even though you won't see anything extraordinary - no Michael Bay-type effects and no mind blowing narrative - it's still an outstanding low-budget movie. Movie Review: Code 8 (2019) Amell bros deliver! First of all, they are not brothers, they're cousins. But I always thought they were brothers and they are both cool guys, so yeah... They're best bros, they're the Amell Bros to me. This all started from a short-film produced by the Amell Bros themselves in 2016. You can watch it on youtube here:  Code 8 (2016) That short-film served as an introduction to the universe and a teaser for the movie. While releasing the short, the Amell Bros simultaneously started an Indiegogo (croudfunding) campaign in order to fund the full-length feature. So now, 3 years later, we get the result. And it's GOOD! Not another Arrowverse crossover! So what's it all about Code 8 takes place in a world where 4% ...
